Despite the drizzle this was a good day. We travelled down in a Bristol
RE owned by Malcolm Hyland and Steve Warwick. The weather forecast had
looked good, but was rather cloudy and sad-looking while we waited for the bus
to arrive. We took bucket, spades, sun cream, waterproofs and umbrella,
just to cover all the basis.
The journey took just over 2 hours, arriving at 10.30. It was very well
organised, we just followed the Festival signs. The event was held in a
field by the waterfront at Stokes Bay. In the field next door was the
Stokes Bay Festival complete with circus, a big top, performing artists and
Morris Men.
In our field there were over 70 vehicles with a good smattering from First
and Stagecoach as well as a good selection of RouteMasters, Bristols and many
others, but only one Bristol RE, the one we were in.
There were local charity stalls offering face painting and tombolas as well
as some lovely food. As expected there were also stalls selling bus, train
and plane memorabilia.
The cavalcade at 1.30 involved the majority of the vehicles and left the
ground rather empty, but it was only for a short while.
In between the rain showers we managed to take a look at some of the buses
and here are a few photos taken by me (Louise Goodridge).
