Bank Holiday Monday 25th May
What a wonderful day we had at Quainton this year. Although the heavens
opened over night, we doubted whether we would stay dry through the day.
However, it was so warm we needed hats and sun cream and it was the hottest day
of the year so far!
Every year
the Buckinghamshire Rail
Centre hosts a special Steaming Day and Vintage Bus Day and preserved buses are
encouraged to attend on this day. There were many attractions to see – as
well as steam trains there is a miniature railway and so much more.
| There were two steam trains running up and down
the track which the children really enjoyed travelling on.

|
The trees have been cut down around the
track so you get a much better view around the surrounding countryside
and are able to see the
Quainton Windmill. The windmill is the tallest Windmill in
Buckinghamshire and stands at 65ft.

Vintage buses were running trips throughout the day and there were a lot to
look at parked up in the car park. There were a few stalls inside and
outside the main building selling memorabilia. The cafe was very busy.
The cafe has a reasonable selection of hot and cold food at reasonable prices.
The slice of Ginger and Lemon cake and the scone that we had was lovely and the
children enjoyed their gingerbread men.

| The children loved the two pipe organs on the site, dancing around
in front of them. They laughed and pointed all the way round on
the miniature railway getting very excited by the teddy bears' picnic,
Winnie the Pooh and friends, hedgehogs, Tweenies and various other
characters around the track.
As for the model railway they were enthralled by the tiny steam train
going around the track and watched the man fill it with water and the
train steam off again, picking up Postman Pat at the station. |

This is a enthusiasts day out, but is also a great family day out.
Enthusiasts have the buses and trains and there is plenty for the rest
of the family to do. |
